From misprints to mythmaking
A preview of the 2026 BFA catalog and exhibition
This year’s BFA catalog centers on the theme Myth of Originality. It’s the idea that while nothing is created in isolation, your perspective and voice can never truly be replicated.
Designed by seniors Rinnell Borges and Natalie Mora, the catalog pulls directly from the traces left throughout A&D: fabrication lab scraps, risograph misprints, discarded materials, and other collected fragments from around the building. Their concept reflects the ways we build from one another, from our surroundings, and from everything that came before us.
As they write in their designer statement:
“It was never about creating something no one’s ever made. It was always about creating in a way only you can.”
You can get a first look at the catalog here!
The theme extends beyond the catalog itself. The vinyl installations currently throughout the building and in Link Gallery, installed by Will Arnold and Kiley Reed Black in coordination with Myth of Originality, will remain up throughout the year.
And if you’d like a copy of the catalog for yourself, join us for the opening reception of the 2026 BFA Exhibition at Krannert Art Museum.
Opening Reception: May 9, 4–6 PM
Exhibition on view: May 9–16
